The LEGO® Movie
In conjunction with the new Warner Brothers feature “THE LEGO® MOVIE” the Civic Center and Parks & Recreation will be hosting 2 weeks of fun-filled LEGO® events!
THE LEGO® MOVIE: Playing at the Civic Center Cinema February 7 – 20. See the Schedule of all events plus movie show times attached
, or call the Hotline at 835-3200. Come at least 30 minutes early to see the Pre-Show with clips of the” Valdez 1964” LEGO® Robotics Club at the Tanana Valley Robot Rally Open Championships held February 1 in Fairbanks. Also in the Pre-Show: “How Lego®s Are Made.”

The concession stand will be open during all the activities of VALDEZ LEGO® MANIA WEEKEND, serving Nathan’s Polish Dogs, chips and a healthy snack, with a beverage, for only $7.50!
The LEGO® Contest
REGISTRATION FEE: $5.00. Pre-registration REQUIRED: January 27 – February 5 at the Parks & Recreation office, located at the Civic Center, during office hours: 9:00am-5:00pm, Monday through Friday.
Construct an entry using your own LEGO®, Duplo, Megablocks, or other LEGO® compatible plastic brick. Designs must be appropriate for all ages.
Entries must be your own creation, not a LEGO® designed kit, project found online, in a magazine, etc.
One entry per participant to be considered overall in your age category. You may also enter one additional design, per participant, in ONE of the SPECIALIZED CATEGORIES.
Your creation must fit within a space of 24 inches by 24 inches. Your completed project may be no taller than four feet tall.
Completed projects must be delivered to the Valdez Civic Center Thursday, February 6 between 3:00pm and 9:00pm. Your project will remain in the Civic Center Ballrooms until the Awards Ceremony on Sunday.
PRESCHOOL, GRADES K-2, GRADES 3-5, GRADES 6-8, GRADES 9-12, ADULTS
Within each age category there will be prizes awarded to 2 winners:
1st Place and Honorable Mention
Prizes will also be awarded to the BEST OVERALL in the following categories:

People's Choice Award:
All attendees of the LEGO® contest may vote for one entry in each age category during the Public Viewing hours. All votes will be counted and three winners OVERALL will be announced:
1ST Place, Runner Up and Honorable Mention
The total of the $5 Entry Fee will be divided between the top three vote receivers in the People’s Choice Awards (50% to 1st Place, 30% to Runner Up and 20% to Honorable Mention). Other prizes to be distributed among all winning categories include but are not limited to: Lego® designed kits based on scenes from “THE LEGO® MOVIE”, LEGO® mini-characters from “THE LEGO® MOVIE”, Movie Passes, Concessions Passes, “THE LEGO® MOVIE” mini-posters, Salmonberry Ski Passes, Valdez Swimming Pool Party Rental, Teen Center Party Rental, and Civic Center Conference Room Party Rental. All prize recipients will be entered in a final drawing to win “THE LEGO® MOVIE” totem in the Civic Center Lobby. (Totem will be available to winner after the full run of the movie).
Judging, Viewing, & Voting
1. Judging will take place on Friday, February 7 by a team of LEGO® enthusiasts.
2. Public Viewing and People’s Choice Voting:
Friday, February 7: 6:00pm- 8:00pm
Saturday, February 8: 12:00pm-8:00pm
Sunday, February 9: 12:00pm-2:00pm
3. Competition entries must be taken home Sunday after the Awards Ceremony, between 4:00pm-8:00pm.
Special Note To Contestants For Best Motorized & Coolest Robot:
Please be present at the Civic Center on Friday, February 7 between 5pm-6pm to demonstrate your entry for the judges. You may also want to be available to show your design during Public Viewing times to improve your chances for the People’s Choice Awards. The designer may have another person operate a motorized or robotic entry.
Awards Ceremony will take place Sunday, February 9 at 3:00pm.
Robotics Club Exhibitions:

LEGO® Speed Competition For Ages 6 – Adult:
1. February 10 – 20: Come to the Civic Center and construct a LEGO® designed kit (provided by the Civic Center and Parks & Recreation) during any of the Speed Competition scheduled times. Schedules will be available at the LEGO® CONTEST.
2. 2 Age Categories: 6 – 12 and 13 – Adult.
3. Entry Fee: 2 Snowman Arms (sticks, rulers, tent stakes, anything that could be stuck in a snowman to resemble the arms).
4. You may enter up to 3 (three) times, but only once in a day. You must provide the entry fee of 2 Snowman Arms each time you compete.
5. You’ll be racing against the clock. You may bring a friend and race against each other while racing the clock – 2 people at a time building the same LEGO® designed kit.
6. The top two fastest times in each age category will win the LEGO® designed kit used in the competition, plus other great prizes.
LEGO® Costume Contest
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 16 at 6:15pm. Come in a LEGO® character costume, be in the parade on the Theatre stage before the movie, receive a FREE regular popcorn! Don’t want to dress up? Come and cheer for your favorite costume! Voting will be by audience applause. Top three costumes will receive prizes including movie and concessions passes, free rentals at the Civic Center, the Valdez Swimming Pool or the Woody Woodman Teen Center, and their picture (in costume and out of costume) will run on the Civic Center Front Patio Display for a week!
