Members
The Valdez Parks and Recreation Commission is a seven member board, appointed by the City Council. Each member serves a three year term. The commissioners serve in an at large capacity meaning they represent the community as a whole rather than a specific region or area. The commission members are:

Paul Nylund, Chair Jason Sardinas, Vice Chair Matt Smelcer, Commission Member  Michael Britt, Commission Member

Gary Pauly, Commission Member Brian Teale, Secretary Rich Loftin, Commission Member Darryl Verfaillie, Staff Advisor

Authority & Responsibilities

The commission is an advisory commission to the city council and the planning and zoning commission. It shall act in an advisory capacity to the city in regard to the planning, implementation and enforcement of programs dealing with the establishment, development and maintenance of parks, the creation and preservation of recreational facilities and opportunities, and the conservation of natural and recreational features within the city.
