  1. HAWK May 26th thru September 1st

    May 26, 8:00 AM - September 1, 5:00 PM

    HAWK - Hike Alaska’s Wild Kountry - 2014 For ages 5 and above Pick up a HAWK program trail card at the P&R Office at the Civic Center, at the Healthier You Finale, or at the May 17th Clean-Up Day BBQ Hike, on foot, 3 or more of the trails listed on the reverse side of this card. Valdez Trail information is available in the Parks and Recreation Summer Trail Map Guide or online at: www.ci.valdez.ak.us/parks&trails Log the date you hiked each trail on the reverse side of this tracking card. Turn in your completed trail card at the Parks & Rec Office at the Civic Center or log on to http://ci.valdez.ak.us/HAWKTrailsCard to fill out and submit the online trail form on or before September 1, 2014. Each participant must turn in an individual trail card. Prize Drawings for hiking 3, 5, 7 or all 9 trails. Participants will be entered in each Prize drawing for which they qualify (for example, a person who hikes all 9 trails will be entered in each drawing), but may only win 1 prize

  2. HAWK Adventure Camp 1PM-5PM at the Teen Center *Pre-registration Required*

    July 21, 12:30 PM - 5:30 PM @ Cyber Cafe

    Adventure is a necessary part of growing up in Valdez! This camp for students entering grades 5-8, will vary and may include fire building, outdoor cooking, bear safety, plant and animal identification, shelter construction, survival basics, trips out of town and more! Expect a lot of hiking as each trail around Valdez will be hiked during this week.*TBD* Campers will be transported out to Shoup Bay and overnight in the Stare of Alaska cabins Thursday night, and return hike to Valdez on Friday. This camp is for youth entering grades 5-8, 12:30PM- 5:30PM. Camp will run Monday- Wednesday, 12:30PM-5:30PM and will meet at the Teen Center. Thursday camp will meet at 12:30PM and will return between 5:30-7:30PM on Friday. Max 12 campers per week.   3. All Things Natural Camp 1PM-5PM at the Teen Center *Pre-Registration Required*

    July 21, 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM @ Game Room

    A chance for students entering grades 1-4 to explore the world outside. This week's interactive games and activities will center around exploring local hiking trails, animals, and plants. Registration is required. Please contact our office at 907-835-2531 for more information or to register for this camp.

Parks & Rec Swimming Pool

    Get some exercise swimming laps! Lanes lines are used to separate swimmers and reduce their waves. If under 14 years old, must be accompanied by an adult and be proficient enough to swim laps.

  2. Swim Lessons Levels 1-4 10:00-10:50AM *Pre-Registration Required*

    July 21, 10:00 AM - 10:50 AM @ Lap Pool

    Let our trained staff teach your children the important life skill of swimming! Levels 1 thru 4 are designed for children age 5 and older. Beginning with being comfortable in the water, continuation of exploration of the water and stroke skills development. You can register your swimmer at the Parks & Rec office at the Civic Center.

  3. Swim Lessons Minnows 11:00-11:45AM *Pre-Registration Required*

    July 21, 11:00 AM - 11:45 AM @ Lap Pool

    Let our trained staff teach your children the important life skill of swimming! Minnows is designed for 3 & 4 year olds. It focuses on becoming comfortable in the water. Parents must be in the water for the first 3 lessons. You can register your swimmer at the Parks & Rec office at the Civic Center.

  4. Lap Swim 12:00- 1:30 pm

    Fun for all ages! Both pools are open, diving board is open. Deep-end is roped-off from the shallow end, making "lap swimming" difficult. Must be 8 years old or accompanied by an adult.

  6. VTSC High School Swim Camp 3:00-4:30pm ( Not a Public Activity)

    July 21, 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM @ Valdez Swimming Pool

    The Valdez Torpedoes Swim Club is hosting their annual High School Swim Camp for ages 14- 18 yr, registration will take place on July 21st, 2014 before the camp begins.

  7. Swim Lessons Tadpoles 4:30-5:15pm *Pre-Registration Required*

    July 21, 4:30 PM - 5:15 PM @ Lap Pool

    Let our trained staff teach your children the important life skill of swimming! Tadpoles is a continuation for children who have completed Minnows but not old enough for Level 1. Exploration of the water continued and stroke skills introduced. You can register your swimmer at the Parks & Rec office at the Civic Center.

    A time for parents and their young children to interact and play in the water! The small pool is open for parents and children age 6 or younger. We bring out some of our favorite water toys just for these tots! Parents must be in the water with their children.
