Hospital Maintenance Tech I

The Capital Facilities Department is soliciting applications for a Hospital Maintenance Technician I.

Under general supervision:

performs carpentry,
plumbing,
heating and electrical repairs and
routine maintenance on City hospital, buildings, building systems, medical equipment, and grounds.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or GED equivalent and four (4) years experience in construction, skilled trades or building maintenance OR and equivalent combination. Depending on the needs of the City, additional licenses, certifications and/or training may be required.

Pre-employment UA and background check required prior to employment. Employees are required to meet applicable hospital employment and background requirements, participate in hospital training, and pass drug screening tests.

Temporary Building Maintenance Technician

The City of Valdez is accepting applications for a Temporary Building Maintenance Technician.

Qualifications include but are not limited to:
• 4 years maintenance experience
• Working knowledge of hand and power tools
• Have the ability to read technical specifications and blueprints
• Have working knowledge of plumbing, HVAC & electrical systems, construction skills
• High school diploma/GED
• Must have valid Driver’s license, CDL preferred

Public Safety Technician

The City of Valdez is accepting applications for a full time Public Safety Technician.

Applicant should be able to:

Duties for this position include (but are not inclusive):

answering emergency & non-emergency calls for Police, Fire & EMS,
maintains security and safety of staff, visitors & inmates in the jail,
conducts booking of new inmates,
maintains police/jail files,
monitors security cameras, radios & alarm phones,
and utilizes Computer Aided Dispatch for dispatching calls.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or GED, have a valid Alaska driver’s license and a clear criminal record. Pre-employment drug test is required.

Successful applicant must obtain certifications in CPR, First Aid, EMD, APSIN/NCIC, taser, attend & pass the Municipal Corrections Academy. Annual qualifications in Shotgun and Hand gun are required.

This position is week on/week off, 75 hours per week. Training schedule may not be week on/week off. Knowledge of network environments, word, and excel is highly recommended. Applicant must pass a typing test with a minimum of 45 wpm.

Recreation Coordinator-Teen Center

The City of Valdez, Parks and Recreation Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Teen Recreation Center Supervisor.

Under general supervision, supervises recreational programs and teen and volunteer staff at the Teen Center and other recreation program sites.

Minimum qualifications:

A High School Diploma or GED; and three (3) years’ recreation programming or youth leadership experience.
Must obtain and maintain CPR, First Aid and Food Handler certifications.

The City of Valdez has the need throughout the year to hire temporary employees in various departments. The City maintains a roster from which temporary positions may be filled as they become available. This roster is designed to be an ongoing list of individuals wishing to be considered for temporary employment. Hours and rates of pay will vary by position. Temporary appointments are non-benefited and short-term in nature. Temporary Applications for this roster will be accepted at any time.

Applications will be kept on file for six months in five broad employment categories, please indicate which temporary job category or categories you would like to be considered for on the application form.

Administration/Clerical- Duties may include greeting visitors, directing telephone calls, word processing/computer input, copying/filing, cashiering.
Skilled Labor- Employee will have formal training or experience in a trade or specialty field.
Unskilled Labor- Generally laborer type positions requiring little or no training or experience.
Program Assistants- Employee will work directly/primarily with the public in program delivery, for example Parks & Recreation Dept. summer programs.
Other- A general category for person with experience that does not fit within one of the other categories.
