Capital Facilities Project Manager I or II

The City of Valdez is recruiting for one Project Manager I or II to develop, manage, and inspect all manner of maintenance and capital projects. The City is willing to customize the job for the right individual. Individuals with project management and/or municipal engineering experience are encouraged to submit an application, resume and letter of interest outlining their qualifications.

A Project Manager I position requires a minimum of an Associate’s Degree in a construction related field: and two (2) years’ experience in construction, engineering or contract management; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience;

A Project Manager II position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a construction management field OR Eight (8) years’ experience in construction project management or construction engineering OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The City will consider all candidates who can demonstrate the necessary knowledge and skills required to meet all duties and responsibilities of this position.

Starting salary is from $49K to $56K DOQ, with excellent benefit package.

Solid Waste Laborer-Temporary

The City of Valdez, Solid Waste Department is currently taking applications for a Solid Waste Laborer.

Rate of pay is $21.02 - 37.5 hours per week.

Qualifications:

Must be 18 years of age or older.
Applicant must have a valid Alaska Drivers License, Commercial Drivers License preferable.
Ability to run various types of equipment is also preferable.

Park Maintenance Assistant/Litter Patrol Supervisor

Thee City of Valdez is accepting applications for a Park Maintenance Assistant/ Litter Patrol Supervisor (Specific areas: Litter Patrol Supervisor, Sports Field Maintenance and Custodial Duties).

Requirements:

Duties Include:

Transporting employees to work sites,

Duties for this position are associated with the general maintenance of parks, trails and related facilities and are widely varied.

Weekend Trail Clearing Crew

The City of Valdez is accepting applications for the position of Weekend Trail Clearing Crew.

This is a great opportunity to have a second job on the weekends. It is a temporary seasonal position (20.0 hours/week) which lasts approximately 3 weeks

This position is for the period of June 15th – 30th on Saturdays and Sundays 10 hrs per day with the exception of a 3 hr evening training session that will take place during the week of June 10th - 14th, 2013. This position works Saturdays and Sundays, 10 hour shifts each day. Rate of pay is $13.61 per hour.

This position is very job specific and includes the brushing and maintenance of the Valdez trails system.

Requirements:
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must have a valid Driver’s License
• Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 pounds
• Must be able to hike up to 8 miles in a day to complete trail work
• Must be able to safely operate a variety of hand and power tools including: drills, skill saws, chainsaws and brush-cutters
• Must be able to follow directions and work without direct supervision
• Must be comfortable in the outdoors, in adverse weather, hiking without a firearm
• Must have experience with CPR/1st Aid, current certification is not required

Duties for this position are associated with the general maintenance of trails therefore the applicant must have the ability to perform small engine maintenance on a hand held brush cutter.

Summer Camp Programmer

This is a part time temporary position working 25-30 hours per week. Dates of employment are May 28th -August 9th (with possibility of more hours). Pay rate: $10.34 per hour.

Duties include:
• Supervise the programming for summer fun day camps
• Assisting with programming for the Adventure Camps
• Leading kids ages 1st through 4th grade in activities such as outdoor recreation, sports and games, swimming and art projects
• Supervising and interacting with preschool aged children
• Creates lesson plans and coaches sports
• Coordinates, Supervises, and instructs activities of sports and adventure camps
• Coordinates / assists with Recreational special events
• Disseminate flyers and advertisements

Qualifications:

• Must be enthusiastic, energetic, and ready for a fun summer

Camp Breakdown:
Summer Fun - 6 weeks of camp for children entering grades 1-4, up to 15- 30 hours per week
Adventure Camp - children entering grades 5-7, 2 weeks of in-town camp with up to 30 hours per week, 2 sessions of camp involving an overnight field trip (3 day camp)
Kids in the Kitchen - Children entering grades 1-4 or 5-8, 4 weeks of camp with up to 15 hours per week
Tiny Tykes - 3 weeks of camp for children age 4&5 with up to 20 hours per week
Basketball - 2 weeks of camp for children entering grades 5-6 or 7-8 with up to 16 hours per week
Football - 1 week of camp for children entering grades with up to 16 hours per week

The City of Valdez has the need throughout the year to hire temporary employees in various departments. The City maintains a roster from which temporary positions may be filled as they become available. This roster is designed to be an ongoing list of individuals wishing to be considered for temporary employment. Hours and rates of pay will vary by position. Temporary appointments are non-benefited and short-term in nature. Temporary Applications for this roster will be accepted at any time.

Applications will be kept on file for six months in five broad employment categories, please indicate which temporary job category or categories you would like to be considered for on the application form.

Administration/Clerical- Duties may include greeting visitors, directing telephone calls, word processing/computer input, copying/filing, cashiering.
Skilled Labor- Employee will have formal training or experience in a trade or specialty field.
Unskilled Labor- Generally laborer type positions requiring little or no training or experience.
Program Assistants- Employee will work directly/primarily with the public in program delivery, for example Parks & Recreation Dept. summer programs.
