Parks & Rec Special Events

  1. CycloFemme Bike Ride 1PM at Teen Center

    May 10, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM @ Woody Woodman Teen Center

    Join Valdez Parks & Rec for our 2nd Annual CycloFemme Bike Ride (the ONLY CycloFemme Ride in ALASKA!) to celebrate Mother's Day and promote biking in our community! This will be a family-friendly ride around town sidewalks and along the bike paths in town. Meet at the Teen Center at 1PM on Sunday, May 10th for this free ride. We encourage you to bring your helmets and safety gear- especially the kiddos!! We will begin riding at 1:15PM, so be on time. Course information will be available here closer to the date of the event.

  2. Community Clean-Up Day starting 9AM at multiple locations

    May 16, 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM @ Woody Woodman Teen Center

    Pick up a bag from 9:00am-1:00pm at one of the following locations and help clean up Valdez: Gilpatrickā€™s Nursery, Robe River Firestation, the Post Office, or the Teen Center. Those who participate in Clean Up Day, by picking up a yellow ALPAR bag, will be awarded an admission ticket to the FREE BBQ, which includes good food, LIVE music by local band, Future Babes, and more! Prize drawings begin at 6:30pm, you must be present to win and have earned a ticket from the earlier bag pick-up at any location. Any garbage and debris picked up in the provided yellow Clean Up Day bags can be deposited on the curbside or side of the road for pick up by the Baler. We will have additional bag pick up locations at the Civic Center and City Shop (on W. Egan Dr.)throughout the week of May 18-22, for further community clean up opportunities. Valdez Community Clean Up Day is co-sponsored by Valdez Parks & Rec and Public Works Departments and ALPAR- Alaskans for Litter Prevention & Recycling

  3. Annual Bite Back Runs 10AM at Kelsey Dock

    May 30, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ John Thomas Kelsey Municipal Plaza

    The Annual Bite Back Run is a favorite among local runners. This run is co-sponsored by Sheri Beck, on behalf of Compassion International, and Valdez Parks & Rec. All proceeds benefit Compassion International's Malaria Fund. Runs begin with a Kids 1 Mile run from John Kelsey Dock and past the Civic Center. Immediately following the Kids run is the 5K Fun Run, route beginning and ending at John Kelsey Dock. Registration will take place from 10:00-10:40AM on race day on location. Cash and check only.
